Ryanair press ahead with offer for Aer lingus
Just two days after Ryanair announced their latest bid for the remainder of Aer Lingus, Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary met with Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey for 40 minutes at Leinster House. Following the immediate rejection by Aer Lingus of the latest offer, Michael O'Leary said that he would ignore the wishes of the board and that he would urge the government to consider the merger.
Strict stock market rules governing mergers and takeovers preclude Minister Dempsey from making comment on the matter but the fact that a meeting took place so soon after the latest offer was announced would give credence to the idea that the government is giving serious consideration to the proposal.
