Preliminary report into crash of EI-CZL

The Air accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport (AAIU) has issued a preliminary report into the crash of Schweizer 269C-1 registered EI-CZL at Kilshancoe on April 1 last.
the helispoter departed Weston Airport at 16.01 on the day of the crash on a navigation exercise with two crew - a student and instructor. The last radio transmission was made at 16.12 The last movement at Weston that day occurred at 19.21 with the ATC being closed with the end of VFR at 19.30. It wasn't until the next morning that the alarm was raised by a concerned family member of one of the crew.
The investigation to date has found that the helicopter struck unpowered electrical transmission lines before impacting the ground on machined bog. The two occupants died as a result of the crash. The AAIU do not consider the weather to have been a factor in the crash and are currently examining the engineering and operational aspects of the flight. The report expresses concern at the delay in reporting the helicopter as missing.
