Ryanair to overtake Iberia

According to figures released by AENA, the Spanish airports authority, Ryanair is now the second largest airline in passenger numbers operating in the Spanish market, with the low cost carrier claiming it will overtake Iberia in two years time. The growth at Ryanair has come at the expense of Air Europa and Spanair, both of whom have seen their passenger numbers fall this past winter. For 2008 as a whole, Iberia carried 33.5m passengers, Spanair18m, Air Europa 15.6m and Ryanair 14.8m. Since October however Ryanair's annualised share of the market has outstripped Spanair and Air Europa.
